Trailer: ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile’ Turns Zac Efron Into Ted Bundy

With Sundance Film Festival underway, news about the next great films of 2019 has already begun circulating. With critics checking in on some of the very best films of the year, some stand out as potential breakthrough moments for the talent involved. For Zac Efron, the trailer for “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile” offers the actor a chance to break from his pretty boy image. Efron has made good films, showing off his skills as a comedian in “Neighbors” and “The Greatest Showman” reminded audiences of his singing ability. However, playing notorious serial killer Ted Bundy could be a game changer for him.

In the trailer, you can already see Efron using his charm to the best of his ability. Part of what made Bundy so frightening was his ability to charm. He was a good looking guy, and it seemed unfathomable that he could do what he was accused of. However, Bundy used his intelligence and charm to disarm everyone around him, allowing him to be the American Jack the Ripper in the process.

Directed by Joe Berlinger, who also directed the Netflix documentary series that just released on Netflix, the film looks to tell the scary tale. It also looks to give considerable screentime to Lily Collins, who plays one of Bundy’s girlfriends. Actors John MalkovichJim Parsons, Jeffrey Donovan, and Kaya Scodelario round out the cast. It will be interesting to see if the film catches on with audiences.
