It’s hard to believe that since it’s conception in 1969, Hanna-Barbera‘s most iconic property, Scooby-Doo, has yet to have a full length animated feature for the big screen. It’s therefore fitting that Mystery Inc.‘s first theatrically released animated excursion would be somewhat of an origin story and with the new trailer for “Scoob!” it looks to be the gang’s most epic outing yet.

Warner Bros. released the final trailer for “Scoob!” and while many were expecting a spooky caper featuring some of the franchise’s most popular monsters, the footage hints at a more cosmic adventure. The studio definitely wanted to go big and bold for the franchise’s first animated feature as the trailer not only teases “How Shaggy Met Scooby”-style flashbacks but finds the two best friends on a space ship abducted by classic Hanna Barbera characters Dynomutt (Ken Jeong) and Blue Falcon (Mark Wahlberg). Perhaps this indicates Warner Bros. is looking to jumpstart an interconnected Hanna-Barbera animated universe as “Scoob!” also features the infamous Dick Dastardly (Jason Isaacs) who appears to be the main villain orchestrating the events. Nevertheless, the film looks to deliver on the signature sleuthing, thrills, and fun this detective family of misfits is beloved for.

“Scoob!” is directed by Tony Cervone (“Space Jam,” “Duck Dodgers”) and features an all-star cast which includes Will Forte as Shaggy; Gina Rodriguez as Velma; Zac Efron as Fred; Amanda Seyfried as Daphne; Kiersey Clemons as Falcon Fury pilot Dee Dee Skyes; Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman; Simon Cowell as himself; and Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo. You can read the official synopsis and check out the official trailer below.

“‘SCOOB!’ reveals how lifelong friends Scooby and Shaggy first met and how they joined with young detectives Fred, Velma, and Daphne to form the famous Mystery Inc. Now, with hundreds of cases solved and adventures shared, Scooby and the gang face their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this global “dogpocalypse,” the gang discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.”

“Scoob!” is distributed by Warner Bros and will be in theaters May 15.
