Universal Pictures have won out a bid for Olivia Wilde‘s next project, a holiday comedy with “Booksmart” writer Katie Silberman. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter Friday, Wilde and Silberman have their eyes set on an original comedy script set for the holidays. The idea was reportedly sought after by five other studios bidding their wages. Wilde is set to direct the film, her second directorial feature, while Silberman is set to write the script.

Wilde is coming off her recent directorial debut with “Booksmart,” which stars Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever as high school seniors bound for college success after graduation. They are willing to scavenge for all the fun and partying in one night that they missed those four years studying. The rated-R comedy premiered at SXSW Film Festival earlier this year to raving reviews. It was released in theaters late-May and continued to receive good reception.

Wilde is currently starring and working on “The Ballad of Richard Jewell,” a drama directed by Clint Eastwood, which also stars Jon Hamm, Sam Rockwell and Kathy Bates. Silberman wrote “Booksmart” along with writers Emily Halpern, Susanna Fogel and Sarah Haskins. Silberman also wrote Netflix’s romcom “Set it Up,” and also on the Rebel Wilson-starring, “Isn’t it Romantic.” She recently wrote the script for next year’s “Most Dangerous Game,” starring Zoey Deutch.

Wilde and Silberman will be producing the new comedy. Universal’s senior vp of production Sara Scott and director of development Lexi Barta will oversee development of the project for the studio. Wilde is represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment. Silberman is repped by MXN Entertainment.
