While many have had an eye on “At Eternity’s Gate” for some time, we finally got word on the film after its debut at Venice. It is not entirely surprising to hear that Willem Dafoe, set to star as the doomed painter Vincent Van Gogh would be strong work. However, Dafoe may have given a career-defining performance and this may put him in the driver’s seat for Oscar. Julian Schnabel receives a mixed reaction for his impressionistic direction, and Oscar Isaac gets good, but not standout reviews. Can Schnabel, Isaac, and Dafoe find their way into the Oscar race? Check out the first reviews below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
Turns out we do need another biopic on Vincent van Gogh, especially if it is made by Julian Schnabel in his latest film #AtEternitysGate. Each painting comes alive and vivid in every scene, thanks to the director’s sensitivity and obvious knowledge of the subject.
