VENICE: Julian Schnabel’s ‘At Eternity’s Gate’ Brings Career Best From Dafoe


While many have had an eye on “At Eternity’s Gate” for some time, we finally got word on the film after its debut at Venice. It is not entirely surprising to hear that Willem Dafoe, set to star as the doomed painter Vincent Van Gogh would be strong work. However, Dafoe may have given a career-defining performance and this may put him in the driver’s seat for Oscar. Julian Schnabel receives a mixed reaction for his impressionistic direction, and Oscar Isaac gets good, but not standout reviews.
