WATCH: ‘A Private War’ Stars Rosamund Pike as Journalist Marie Colvin

While the festival season is about to start this week, there is still time for contenders to emerge. One film hoping to do that is “A Private War,” which was announced as the opening film for the Mill Valley Film Festival last Friday. The feature follows Rosamund Pike as journalist Marie Colvin, who became known around the world for her daring reporting. Colvin became one of the great war correspondents of her era, even losing an eye in Sri Lanka. Despite her injury, she continued to report from some of the most dangerous places on Earth. Today, we get the first trailer for “A Private War,” which tells her story.

The IMDb synopsis for “A Private War” is as follows:

One of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time, Marie Colvin is an utterly fearless and rebellious spirit, driven to the frontlines of conflicts across the globe to give voice to the voiceless.

The supporting cast comes to play in the trailer. We get a lot of Jamie Dornan as photojournalist Paul Conroy. Also featured heavily throughout the trailer are Tom Hollander and Stanley Tucci, who will each feature as supporting characters. Most importantly, Pike looks to have a challenging role on her hands. It is reminiscent of Jeremy Renner in “The Hurt Locker,” as she struggles to adjust to normal life outside of war. This addiction to war is a modern examination of the phenomenon that also received attention in “American Sniper” back in 2014. Considering that at least two actors have already received nominations for similar subject matter, it would be wise to keep an eye on Pike in the Actress race.

“A Private War” will release on November 16th, 2018. Aviron Pictures will distribute.
