Sony Pictures released the official trailer for the upcoming film, “White Boy Rick.”
The film tells the true story of Rick Wershe Jr., a teenager who found himself working as an FBI informant in the 1980s. Eventually the teenager was abandoned by his FBI handlers and sent to prison for drug trafficking.
Richie Merritt makes his feature film debut as the titular White Boy Rick. He stars alongside Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey, who plays his father, Rick Wershe Sr. McConaughey won an Academy Award for “Dallas Buyers Club” in 2013.

Yann Demange directs this film. It is his first feature since the Irish military thriller “’71” in 2014. Demange directed episodes of “The Secret Diary of a Call Girl,” “Dead Set” “Criminal Justice,” and “Top Boy.”
Andy Weiss and Noah & Logan Miller wrote the script. Weiss was a writer on Ashton Kutcher’s “Punk’d” back in the early 2000s. Noah and Logan Miller wrote and directed “Sweetwater” and “Touching Home.”
The film is being produced by Studio 8. Sony Pictures is distributing in the US under Columbia Pictures. “White Boy Rick” hits theaters on September 21.
