A24 have released a trailer for “Saint Maud,” the debut feature from writer and director Rose Glass. It stars Morfydd Clark and Jennifer Ehle.
Maud (Clark) is a newly devout nurse working in hospice care. Her work quickly becomes obsessive as she vies to save the soul of a dying patient. “You must be the loniest girl I’ve ever seen,” her patient tells her. “I have a responsibility. This is life and death on another level. What if I’m getting it all wrong?” Maud says in the trailer.
Glass directs her first feature length film after helming video shorts including “A Moment of Horror,” “The Silken Strand,” “Storm House” and “Moths.” Her short film, “Room 55,” screened at SXSW Film Festival, as well as festivals in the UK. “Saint Maud” world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and made its way to Fantastic Fest and AFI Fest. It won the Honourable Mention Award for Best Film at the London Film Festival.
Clark stars as Maud in the film. Her previous roles came with “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” “The Falling,” “Patrick Melrose” and “His Dark Materials.” She can be seen in BBC’s miniseries, “Dracula,” next year. “Saint Maud” also stars Turlough Convery, Marcus Hutton and Carl Prekopp.
A24 unpacks this latest horror onto audiences after its other recent genre features, Ari Aster’s “Midsommar” and “Hereditary.” The company also released Robert Eggers’ “The Witch” and his latest, “The Lighthouse,” starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson.
“Saint Maud” is produced by Film4, Escape Plan Productions and the BFI Film Fund. It is distributed by A24 and releases in theaters March 27, 2020 and in the UK May 1, 2020.
