A24 has finally gifted eager fans with the official trailer for “How to Talk to Girls at Parties.”

The official synopsis from A24 reads:

“Enn is a shy suburban London teenager in 1977, sneaking out with his best friends to after-hours punk parties. One night they stumble upon a bizarre gathering of sexy teenagers who seem like they are from another planet. In fact, they are from another planet, visiting Earth to complete a mysterious rite of passage. That doesn’t stop Enn from falling madly in love with Zan, a beautiful and rebellious alien teenager who, despite her allegiance to her strange colony, is fascinated by Enn. Together they embark on a delirious adventure through the kinetic punk rock world of 1970s London, inadvertently setting off a series of events that will lead to the ultimate showdown of punks vs. aliens, and test the limits of how far each of them will go for true love.”

The film stars Alex Sharp as Enn and Elle Fanning as Zan. Sharp’s feature debut came last year in Marti Noxon’s “To the Bone” for Netflix, although he filmed this around the same time. He has three additional films in post-production.

Fanning has been acting in films since the tender age of 2, when she played the younger version of her sister Dakota’s Lucy in “I Am Sam.” Since then, Fanning has not looked back. She went on to appear in “Daddy Day Care,” “Babel,” “Super 8,” and last year’s “The Beguiled,” with many other films in between. She will be on a non-stop promotional tour this year as several films find their way to theaters, including “Mary Shelley,” and Sundance standout “I Think We’re Alone Now.”

“How to Talk to Girls at Parties” also stars Nicole Kidman, Ruth Wilson, and Matt Lucas. It is directed by John Cameron Mitchell, who previously directed “Rabbit Hole” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” Mitchell co-wrote the script with Philippa Goslett, who also wrote “Mary Magdalene.” They adapted the script from a short story by Neil Gaiman.

The film is distributed by A24 and will be in theaters May 18.
