WATCH: Claire Foy is the Righter of Wrongs in Official Trailer for ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’

Sony Pictures began Thursday with releasing the official trailer for “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”

The film is an installment in the Milennium series, originated by author Stieg Larsson. It follows Lisbeth Salander, one of the world’s best computer hackers. Together with her journalist friend Michael Blomkvist, they set out to bring down a corrupt organization that involves cyber crime, and goes all the way up into high levels of the government.

Larsson wrote a trilogy of books about Salander and Blomkvist: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.” Larsson passed away before they were all published, but the novels were best sellers, and other authors signed on to continue the adventures of the unlikely crimefighting duo.

Larsson’s trilogy was adapted into films in his native Sweden, and starred Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist. The first was later adapted by American filmmaker David Fincher, and earned five Academy Award nominations, winning in a surprising turn for Film Editing. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig starred in the lead roles. The subsequent films were rumored, but never materialized for the American audience.

“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” is the first in the series not to be written by Larsson. David Lagercrantz wrote the book, and Steven Knight adapted it.

This time, Golden Globe winner Claire Foy takes on the role of Lisbeth Salander. Foy recently completed her second season of “The Crown” for Netflix. She also starred earlier this year in Steven Soderbergh’s inventive film, “Unsane.” Later this year, she stars opposite Ryan Gosling in Damien Chazelle’s “First Man.”

Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason is Michael Blomkvist. His work has primarily been in Swedish film and television, with films like “The Circle” from 2015. He also recently starred as Björn Borg in “Borg vs. McEnroe.”

This film also stars Vicky Krieps, Lakeith Stanfield, Stephen Merchant, and Claes Bang.

Fede Alvarez (“Don’t Breathe”) directs this film that is not quite a sequel to “Dragon Tattoo.”

Sony Pictures is distributing the film which will be in theaters on November 9.
