The Super Bowl was a busy night for Disney. Not only did they release teasers for their upcoming Marvel shows and a final spot for “Black Widow,” but they also revealed the final trailer for their latest live-action remake, “Mulan.”

The two-minute trailer shows some clips that had not yet been featured from the previous trailers, with the film already looking vastly different from many of Disney’s previous live-action remakes. Whilst “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book” were shot to shot remakes, “Mulan” reimagines the story, which will no doubt work favorably with some audiences who have been critical of Disney’s decisions with those past films.

Below is the full final trailer for Disney’s Mulan:

Another clear difference between this feature compared with “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book” is how much less it will be relying on complete CGI and visual effects, with much more focus on the performances and the story whilst still looking stunning.

Liu Yifei is set to play the lead character Mulan, whose filmography includes “Night Peacock” and “The Chinese Widow” with both performances attracting attention from various film festivals across the world. Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li and Jet Li are all part of the ensemble cast.

The film is set to be directed by Niki Caro, becoming only the second female director with over a $100 million budget in Disney’s history. The New Zealand-born director was nominated for the Palme d’Or all the way back in 1994 for her short film “Sure to Rise” and has been rising to fame since. Her filmography includes “Whale Rider,” which earnt 13-year-old Keisha Castle-Hughes an Oscar nomination for Best Actress and “North Country” which earnt Oscar nominations for Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand.

The script has been penned by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Elizabeth Martin & Laura Hynek, which adapts the original Disney Mulan film as well as the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan.”

Walt Disney Studios will release “Mulan” on March 27, 2020.
