WATCH: Final Trailer for ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Aims for the Summer Blockbuster

Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for what may be the biggest blockbuster of the summer, “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.” The franchise now rests on the strong shoulders of their latest leading duo, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham. The film is directed by David Leitch, who helmed “Atomic Blonde” and “Deadpool 2.” It’s written by Chris Morgan with a screenplay by Drew Pearce.

The final “Hobbs & Shaw” trailer doesn’t hone the chemistry and banter between Johnson and Statham as the previous clips did, but it readies audience palettes with high-octane action you’ll be waiting to see. It’s an all out war brewing as the two bud heads and join forces to take down the cyber-enhanced Idris Elba villain. The film also stars Vanessa Kirby in a role fitting for the actress from her marvelous performance in last year’s action juggernaut, “Mission: Impossible- Fallout.”

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

The “Fast & Furious” franchise is long gone from its backyard racing roots. The steady collection of action films have been outpacing each other in box office numbers over the years. The last outing, 2017’s “Fate of the Furious,” grossed over $226 million domestic and over $1.2 billion worldwide. This was a marvelous jump from even 2015’s “Furious 7, directed by James Wan, which grossed over $353 million domestic and astoundingly over $1.5 billion total worldwide.

“Hobbs & Shaw” is produced and distributed by Universal Pictures. The heated action lands in theaters August 2.
