Watch the First Clip for Ryan Gosling’s ‘Lost River’

lost riverI really have no idea what to expect with Ryan Gosling‘s directorial debut Lost River. Once called How to Catch a Monster, Gosling has said he was influenced by his work with Derek Cianfrance and Nicolas Winding Refn, which is an interesting combination, to say the least. In advance of its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, a short clip has emerged from the film, and it seems to have a bit more of the latter influence on display, by way of something else entirely. Gosling wrote and directed, with Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Saoirse Ronan, and Matt Smith leading the cast. I can’t wait to find out what the whole thing is like when it hits theaters later this year, but audiences will see it at Cannes in a few days, so stay tuned there. Lost River likely won’t be an Oscar contender, but it could wind up being one of 2014’s more unique efforts…

Here’s the clip:

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 300 and 350 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
