The official synopsis for ‘Da 5 Bloods’:
“From Academy Award® Winner Spike Lee comes a New Joint: the story of four African-American Vets — Paul (Delroy Lindo), Otis (Clarke Peters), Eddie (Norm Lewis), and Melvin (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) — who return to Vietnam. Searching for the remains of their fallen Squad Leader (Chadwick Boseman) and the promise of buried treasure, our heroes, joined by Paul’s concerned son (Jonathan Majors), battle forces of Man and Nature — while confronted by the lasting ravages of The Immorality of The Vietnam War.”
Last week, Vanity Fair released exclusive first-look images from “Da 5 Bloods.” He reteams with “BlacKkKlansman” screenwriter Kevin Willmott to develop the wartime script. The trailer shows scenes from the movie in the style of old footage from the war and the Nixon era set to the tune of the ’60s hit, “Time Has Come Today.” Boseman’s fallen character is also shown the decades before the group return to the battered lands. The film also stars Mélanie Thierry, Paul Walter Hauser, Jasper Pääkkönen, Johnny Trí Nguyễn, Van Veronica Ngo and Jean Reno.
Oscar nominee Terence Blanchard (“BlacKkKlansman”) composes the score for the film, while BAFTA-nominated Newton Thomas Sigel (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) shoots the film, and Adam Gough (“Roma”) edits. Executive producers are Barry Levine, Miek Bundlie, and Jonathan Filey.
Lee won his first Academy Award in 2019 with “BlacKkKlansman”‘s Best Adapted Screenplay. The film also holds nominations for Best Original Score, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Adam Driver’s supporting performance. Lee’s other directorial credits include “Do the Right Thing,” “She’s Gotta Have It,” School Daze,” 25th Hour,” and “Malcolm X.”
“Da 5 Bloods” premieres on Netflix streaming on June 12. Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks produces. Check out the trailer below!
