WATCH: First Trailer for Rian Johnson’s Star-Studded Whodunnit ‘Knives Out’

Entertainment Weekly

The knives are out! Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Rian Johnson‘s much anticipated follow-up feature to “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” a thriller mystery nod to Agatha Christie, “Knives Out.” “A Rian Johnson Whodunnit,” as marketing regards it, sees the director pulling strings of quippy dialogue and tense circumstances as a detective unravels a murder mystery taking place in the home of a very dysfunctional family. With an impressive stacked ensemble, the film looks to be a wild ride of suspicion. The exclusive trailer landed on Entertainment Weekly.

Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate.

From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death. With an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford and Jaeden Martell, KNIVES OUT is a witty and stylish whodunit guaranteed to keep audiences guessing until the very end.

Rian Johnson and Lionsgate attended CinemaCon earlier this year and they previewed an exclusive clip from the film to viewers. Ever since then, the buzz about Johnson’s whodunnit feature has been circling minds. Rallying together some of Hollywood’s most talked about actors in an enclosed mystery seems like a clever brief switch for the director. Outside of his Star Wars commitments, Johnson has directed “Looper,” “The Brothers Bloom,” “Brick” and the stellar “Breaking Bad” episode, ‘Ozymandias.’ He writes his own script for “Knives Out,” which he noted at CinemaCon to be an Agatha Christie inspiration with a “Hitchcock thriller-type twist.”

The stacked cast includes Ana de Armas (“Blade Runner 2049”) as Marta, Chris Evans (“Avengers: Endgame”) as Alex Robinson, Daniel Craig (“Casino Royale”) as Benoit Blanc, Michael Shannon (“The Shape of Water”) as Jack Bressler, Jamie Lee Curtis (“Halloween”) as Linda Robinson, LaKeith Stanfield (“Atlanta,” “Sorry to Bother You”) as Detective Troy Archer and Don Johnson (“Miami Vice”) as Morris Bristow. The ensemble also includes Toni Collette (“Hereditary”), Katherine Langford (“13 Reasons Why”) and Christopher Plummer (“The Sound of Music”).

“Knives Out” is produced by FilmNation Entertainment and MRC, and is distributed by Lionsgate. The film lands into theaters November 27, just in time for a family Thanksgiving outing!
