The highly anticipated trailer for Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” was released by Searchlight Pictures today and it is exactly what fans of the director have wanted and hoped for.

It was recently revealed that the comedy-drama will be released on July 24, 2020. Now the excitement for its release will amp up thanks to the trailer that showcases the star-studded ensemble.

“The French Dispatch” centers around a collection of short stories from the final issue of an American newspaper, set in a fictional 20th century French city. The trailer has helped make things clearer in terms of which cast members are featured together in which story. It is also worth noting that the trailer switches between black & white and color, with each of the three stories using both.

The first story to feature in the trailer is “The Concrete Masterpiece” by J.K.L. Beren. Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro (“21 Grams”) appears to be the leading man in this story, with Academy Award winner Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”), Léa Seydoux (Blue Is the Warmest Color”) and Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton (“Michael Clayton”) in supporting roles.

The second, “Revisions to a Manifesto” by Lucinda Krementz, features the unlikely duo of Academy Award winner Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”) and Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me By Your Name”).

The third and final, “The Private Dining Room of the Police Commissioner,” includes Emmy winner Jeffrey Wright (“Angels in America”) and Mathieu Amalric.

Other cast members include Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Lyna Khoudri, Stephen Mark, Saoirse Ronan, Elisabeth Moss and Willem Dafoe. Anderson directed and wrote the screenplay as per usual, with Steven Rales and Jeremy Dawson acting as producers alongside him.

The film is very much in the style of previous Anderson films, including most recently “Isle of Dogs.” He had a successful past decade with the likes of “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Moonrise Kingdom” bringing him Oscar nominations.
