Watch: ‘Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween’ Trailer Drops

In 2015, “Goosebumps” brought a beloved children’s literature franchise to life. The film starred Dylan Minette (“13 Reasons Why“) in a lead role, and featured the amazing Jack Black as R.L. Stine. The film was a hit, grossing $150 million worldwide on a $58 million dollar budget. News of a sequel was quickly spreading, but there have been almost no details in the years since. That is, until today, when the first trailer for “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween” dropped.

Goosebumps 2 PosterThe movie looks to follow a new group of kids dealing with the monsters of the “Goosebumps” universe. Jeremy Ray Taylor, best known as Ben from “It” last year, looks to the lead the story this time around. Caleel Harris, who seems to be Taylor’s friend in this film, will be joining Taylor as part of the Stephen King renaissance with “Castle Rock” debuting in a couple of weeks. Madison Iseman (“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle“) rounds out the trio as they battle goblins and ghouls from the mind of R.L. Stine. The extended cast includes comedic talent, including Wendi McLendon-CoveyKen Jeong, and Chris Parnell. It does not appear that Black, Minette, or Odeya Rush (“Lady Bird“) will return for the sequel.

The story feels rather paint by the numbers, but there’s a lot of potential in “Goosebumps” as an IP. With so many books sold, there are dozens of ways to take the franchise. It’s a shame that it looks to be a retread of the first film, but with months until the release, there may be plenty of time to see new and exciting footage.
