Paramount Pictures has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming Transformers spin-off, “Bumblebee.”
The film tells the story of the beloved mute Transformer, some 30 years before he reunited with Optimus Prime and the others. The IMDb description says:
“On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.”
Academy Award nominee Hailee Steinfeld stars as Charlie. She has never looked back after her breakout role in “True Grit” in 2010. She also starred in two of the “Pitch Perfect” films, and the coming of age tale, “The Edge of Seventeen.”
John Cena stars an an agent on the hunt for Charlie and her vehicular companion. Cena recently starred in the surprise hit “Blockers,” as well as voicing the main character in the Oscar-nominated animated film, “Ferdinand.”
Pamela Adlon (“Better Things”), Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (“Brigsby Bear”), John Ortiz (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Jason Drucker (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid”), Stephen Schneider (“Broad City”), and Kenneth Choi (“Spider-Man: Homecoming”) also star.
Martin Short, Jess Harnell, and Peter Cullen provide voices.
Travis Knight directs “Bumblebee.” He previously directed “Kubo and the Two Strings,” and moves into the director’s chair from the Art Department. In addition to “Kubo,” he also worked on “ParaNorman” and “The Boxtrolls.” Knight is the first person to direct a film in the “Transformers” franchise besides Michael Bay.
Christina Hodson wrote the script. She also wrote the screenplays for “Shut In” and “Unforgettable.” Hodson will next work on both “Birds of Prey” and “Batgirl” for Warner Bros.
Paramount Pictures will release “Bumblebee” in theaters nationwide on December 21.
