WATCH: James Franco Channels Tommy Wiseau in the Official Trailer for ‘The Disaster Artist’ from A24

The Disaster Artist” screened as part of the Midnight Madness section at TIFF on Monday night. Following the screening, distributor A24 released the official trailer for the film.

James Franco plays Tommy Wiseau, who is credited with directing the “worst film ever made.” The film in question is 2003’s “The Room,” in which Wiseau wrote, directed, and starred. “The Disaster Artist” is the tale of making that film. Fittingly, James Franco also directed. It is based on the book “The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made,” written by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell. Dave Franco plays Greg.

The script was written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. The pair previously wrote “(500) Days of Summer,” and “The Fault in Our Stars.”

A who’s who of Hollywood supporting actors, guest stars and cameos appear. Some of the familiar faces include Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, Zac Efron, Kate Upton, and Bryan Cranston. Tommy Wiseau also makes an appearance.

Praise for “The Disaster Artist” was immediate and loud in Canada. Many flocked to Twitter immediately after the screening.
