WATCH: Jane Fonda and Robert Redford Reach Out to Each Other in ‘Our Souls at Night’ Trailer

Jane Fonda (“Grace and Frankie”) and Robert Redford (“Ocean Warriors”) are reuniting once again, fifty years after their hit film “Barefoot in the Park.” In a new trailer for their Netflix film “Our Souls at Night,” the pair gravitate towards each other in a touching story about love and loneliness.

Addie Moore (Fonda) and Louis Waters (Redford) have been neighbors for years, but rarely speak. Both of their partners have passed and their children are grown, leaving them alone in houses once filled with loved ones. As both slide into their twilight years, deep loneliness and longing for companionship– someone to sleep next to at night– urges Addie to reach out to Louis. The pair seek a deeper relationship in a story about love and quiet, complete connection.

Ritesh Batra (“The Sense of an Ending”) directed the film, which was written by Kent Haruf (“Plainsong”), Scott Neustadter (“The Fault in Our Stars”) and his writing partner Michael H. Weber (“The Spectacular Now”). “Our Souls at Night” also features Judy Greer (“Archer”), Matthias Schoenaerts (“The Drop”), Iain Armitage (“The Glass Castle”) and Bruce Dern (“The Hateful Eight”).

The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where both Fonda and Redford received Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement awards for their contributions to film, according to Variety. Fonda and Redford have previously worked together on three previous movies, and according to an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Fonda fell in love with Redford every time. This time around, she “[realized she’d] grown up,” and is far less intimidated to speak to her costar outside of filming. However, she did admit, “The only problem with working with Bob is that I just look into his . . . I kind of fall into his eyes and forget my dialogue.” Here’s hoping that chemistry continues to come across onscreen in their new film.

“Our Souls at Night” comes to Netflix Sept. 29. Watch the official trailer below.
