Watch Lily Tomlin shine in the First Trailer for ‘Grandma’

Screen-Shot-2015-06-18-at-10.15.49-AMLike a few other staff members here at The Awards Circuit, I’ve seen Grandma and been blown away by Lily Tomlin‘s performance. Personally, I also think that Sam Elliott has an amazingly little supporting turn that’s going to be unjustly ignored, though perhaps when more see the sequence that Elliott and Tomlin share, a movement for both to get nominated will begin.

Regardless, a Trailer has dropped for this hit indie dramedy in the making. Both at the Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals this year, Paul Weitz‘s movie has been a hit. In addition to Tomlin in the title role and Elliott in his scene stealing role, the cast includes Julia Garner, Marcia Gay Harden, Judy Greer, and Nat Wolff, among others.  It’s a great little flick, funny and able to tug at your emotions in some very surprising spots, making for something that the Academy could very well take a liking to. We’ll see on that front, but Grandma is one not to miss. Check out the Trailer below and stay tuned for more.

Written and directed by Weitz, Grandma opens on August 21st, so we’ll be writing plenty more about it between now and then, trust me there.

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 300 and 350 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

I’m very excited to see Lily be one of the 5 nominees this year for Best Actress.
