Netflix released the official trailer for its upcoming film, “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).”
The film is the story of the Meyerowitz family. The estranged adult siblings are brought back together to celebrate the work of their domineering artist father.
Dustin Hoffman plays the patriarch of the dysfunctional family. Hoffman won Academy Awards for his roles in “Kramer vs. Kramer” and “Rain Man.” He was also nominated for five additional films, the most recent of which was 1997’s “Wag the Dog.”
Adam Sandler co-stars in a role that has earned him rare critical praise. Though his films have grossed more than $2.5 billion at the box office since 1993, “Happy Gilmore” and “Billy Madison” were commercial works rather than awards contenders. Prior to “Meyerowitz,” most consider his best performance as his work in the 2002 film “Punch-Drunk Love.”
Ben Stiller has had a similar career path to Sandler, although he does have more “fresh” films in his filmography. One of his highest rated films is the raunchy comedy “Tropic Thunder,” which he also directed.
The film also stars Emma Thompson (“Beauty and the Beast”), Elizabeth Marvel (“House of Cards”), and Judd Hirsch (“The Goldbergs”).
Noah Baumbach wrote and directed “The Meyerowitz Stories.” He received his first Academy Award nomination for writing the Original Screenplay for “The Squid and the Whale.” He previously directed Ben Stiller in the 2014 film “While We’re Young.”
The film will be available for streaming on Netflix on October 13.
It will also have an awards-qualifying theatrical release in select theaters.
