WATCH: Michael Myers Returns Home in New ‘Halloween’ Trailer

For horror fans, the upcoming Blumhouse and Universal production of “Halloween” is undeniably one of the most anticipated films of the year. The collaboration between the low-budget horror studio, John Carpenter, and the surprising combo of Danny McBridand David Gordon Green has inspired hope in the fanbase. The return of Jamie Lee Curtis has done a lot to bring out the goodwill for the franchise as well. Cinephiles’ excitement only grew when it was announced Michael Myers would make his debut at the Toronto International Film Festival this year. Today we’ve picked up another trailer.

We begin with a nice extended shot of children running into Michael. The scene is a great call back to the original film, where a nearly identical introduces the villain. As the scenes unfold, we get an escalation from Michael, while he quickly ups his weapon game. Starting with a hammer, we hear an off-screen death and he picks up the knife. The scene gives away little in terms of plot, and promises audiences we’re in for something special.

Other than A24, there are no studios with as strong of a track record as Blumhouse. They’ve taken chances on many interesting directors, and the results have been excellent. Now, David Gordon Green gets to try his hand at horror and the effort look promising. While the film obviously looks sleeker than the original, it seems to be aware of many of the filmmaking ticks that distinguish Carpenter from the rest of the genre. Dolly shots, framing, and even an off-camera death all work to reinforce this. With six short weeks until Michael is back in theaters, horror fans are wickedly excited.

“Halloween” releases on Oct. 19, 2018. Universal Studios Pictures will distribute.
