WATCH: Natalie Portman Goes to Space in New ‘Lucy in the Sky’ Trailer

Lucy in the Sky

Fox Searchlight has released a new trailer for Noah Hawley’s “Lucy in the Sky.” The film stars Natalie Portman and Jon Hamm, along with Dan Stevens and Zazie Beetz in supporting roles.

The story follows Lucy Cola, an astronaut who returns to Earth after a long mission. As a result of being away so long, she discovers that she is losing touch with reality. The film is said to be based on the life of Lisa Nowak, an astronaut who was charged with attempted kidnapping, burglary with assault  and battery in 2007. After consulting with lawyers and medical reports, she plead guilty to lesser charges and was sentenced to a year’s probation. In addition, she was fired from NASA.

Natalie Portman plays Lucy. She won the Oscar for her dark turn in “Black Swan” in 2010. Last year, she starred in both “Vox Lux” and the sci-fi/fantasy “Annihilation.” Jon Hamm, famous for the “Mad Men” series, co-stars as the man at the center of Lucy’s story.

Noah Hawley is already a big figure in television as the creator of both “Legion” and “Fargo,” two cinematic series with innovative methods of storytelling. Now he transitions to feature film directorial debut. He also revised the script written by Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi.

Hawley reunites with his “Legion” star, Dan Stevens, for the new project. Stevens first broke through as a star on the hit series “Downton Abbey,” where he spent three seasons before moving on to other projects.

The rest of the cast includes Pearl Amanda Dickson, Ellen Burstyn and Nick Offerman.

The trailer features changes of aspect-ratio along with some trippy imagery.

Fox Searchlight has not yet announced a release date for “Lucy in the Sky.”
