Welcome to The Eddy. A musical drama set in contemporary Paris revolving around a jazz club, its owner, the house band, and the dangerous city that surrounds them.
Chazelle leads as showrunner and director of the series’ first two episodes. His 2016 film, the musical “La La Land,” earned him the Academy Award for Best Director. Before then, Chazelle made a big splash with the Oscar nominated, “Whiplash.” Starring J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller, the film was also heavily influenced by music. It earned three Oscars, including for Simmons’ supporting performance, Film Editing and Sound Mixing. His most recent film, 2018’s “First Man” garnered an Academy Award win for Visual Effects.
Holland stars as the lead in Chazelle’s newest project, Elliot Udo, “once a celebrated jazz pianist in New York but now the part-owner of a failing Paris jazz club who is hiding from everyone.” Holland was previously seen in the Best Picture-winning feature, “Moonlight” as well as in “Castle Rock” and Steven Soderbergh’s “High Flying Bird.” Kulig starred in the Oscar nominated “Cold War” from Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski. The film also featured Kulig as a singing performer. Stenberg gave a powerful and resonating performance in 2018’s “The Hate U Give.” She also starred in “Everything, Everything” and “Where Hands Touch.”
“The Eddy” has many well regarded names working behind-the-scenes. Six-time Grammy award-winning composer, Glen Ballard, has developed music for the show. BAFTA award-winning writer, Jack Thorne (“The Fades”), has a writing credit along with Dany Héricourt.
Chazelle is also an executive producer on the show, with production from Atlantique Productions and Fifty Fathoms Productions. “The Eddy” arrives on Netflix streaming May 8. Check out the teaser below!
