The true crime boom continues to boom across a variety of television shows and film adaptations. “American Vandal” received Emmy nominations. The Tonya Harding story “I, Tonya” won an Oscar. The public loves the stories around these crimes, and bringing the stories to life makes for easily bingeable content. That was just one reason why “Making a Murderer” took off in 2016. Now, Netflix returns to the case of Steven Avery with “Making a Murderer Part 2” this October. The first trailer released today.
The trails of Steven Avery and Brendon Dassey continue to be a question for many true crime fans. While the first season certainly did not show all of the evidence, it painted a picture of corruption in Wisconsin. Manitowoc County Police and Prosecutors have been stained by the controversy. Now, one of the strongest lawyers in the country will take on the Avery case in an attempt to overturn the verdicts.
The official season was announced a few weeks ago, but that has not been the only news about the cases. Last year, it made national headlines last year after it appeared Dassey would get a release. However, after further appeals, Dassey remains behind bars. However, if new defense and appeals attorney Kathleen Zellner will hope to change the narrative. What makes this season more interesting is the apparent push to discover more evidence about the murder of Teresa Halbach. Rather than simply telling the story for why Avery is in prison, perhaps the new season will find evidence that points to other suspects. It’s an interesting twist for the show in the new iteration.
