WATCH: Netflix Releases the First Trailer for ‘Bird Box’ Starring Sandra Bullock and Sarah Paulson

As Netflix continues to acquire more films, they’ve begun to creep into the blockbuster world. As they’ve acquired some of these sci-fi or special effects driven films, they also draw big stars to the streaming platform. The latest film to do this is “Bird Box,” which provides Sandra Bullock a starring vehicle. The actress led “Ocean’s 8” earlier this year, but that film relied on its ensemble elements. This one offers Bullock the unquestionable starring role. The first trailer for the new film released today.

One of the things that jump out from the film is that it essentially functions as the inverse of “A Quiet Place” in many moments. Rather than not being able to make sound, the characters must roam through the dystopia with no sight. It’s an interesting twist, and could help deliver some great moments of dramatic tension throughout the film. Bullock also takes control over the trailer, showcasing an emotional journey for survival with her children. On the way, they seem to meet another group of survivors, which of course features a lot of solid stars. Among them are Trevante RhodesJohn Malkovich, and Lil Rel Howery. All look to have some standout moments, particularly Rhodes. After starring in “Moonlight” and the recent “The Predator,” Rhodes appears to have his career on track for future hits.

“Bird Box” features additional actors and actresses to keep in mind. Sarah Paulson looks to play Bullock’s significant other in the film. Jacki WeaverRosa SalazarBD Wong and Tom Hollander all factor into the cast as well. From director Susanne Bier, it will be exciting to see a story of the apocalypse about a mother, from a woman’s perspective. After her success with “The Night Manager,” it is time she got another project.

What do you think of the first trailer for “Bird Box?” Do you think it can contend in any categories at the Oscars? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

“Bird Box” releases globally on Netflix on Dec. 21, 2018.
