Netflix has today released the trailer for the upcoming Turkish teen drama “Love 101” which arrives on the streaming service April 24.
It marks the latest non-English language original content from Netflix and the third Turkish drama released by the provider in three years, having previously made and distributed “The Protector” and “The Gift.”
The series is described by Netflix as ’emotional’ and ‘heartfelt’ and stars Pinar Deniz, Kubilay Aka, Mert Yazicioglu, Alina Boz, Selahattin Pasalis, Ipek Filiz Yazici, Kaan Urgancioglu, Müfit Kayacan, Bade Isçil and Tuba Ünsal. Urgancioglu previously appeared in “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” from Amazon.
The following is the synopsis as published on the official Netflix website:
“In 1990s Turkey, a group of teenage outcasts band together to make their beloved teacher fall in love so she’ll have a reason to stay in town with them.”
The eight episodes arriving this month have been written by Meric Acemi, while Amet Katiksiz and Deniz Yorulmazer have directed half the episodes each. It’s a different kind of Turkish drama that Netflix is releasing with the teenage drama “Love 101,” with both “The Protector” and “The Gift” leaning more toward the fantasy genre.
Netflix has been consistently releasing more original content, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic which has left many self-isolating at home and in need of a distraction. Hits for Netflix in recent weeks include the documentary series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” which is captivating audiences around the world, and the limited series “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker” starring Octavia Spencer.
Other shows coming to Netflix in April include the coming-of-age drama “The Outer Banks,” and comedies “#blackAF” and “The Big Big Show.”
