WATCH: New Clips from Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Arrival’ with Amy Adams

Arrival

Move over, “La La Land,” “Arrival” is about to land at Venice. Denis Villeneuve‘s latest is set to debut Thursday at the fest, and two new clips from the film have been released today in advance of the premiere.

The clips give a short glimpse of Amy Adams‘ character in action. Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker also star in the film.

The film takes place after alien crafts land around the world. Louise Banks (Adams), an expert linguist, is recruited by the military to determine whether or not they are a threat. Renner plays mathematician Ian Donnelly, who helps Louise on her mission.

Per Renner in an interview with USA Today, audiences can expect a “thinking person’s film.” He says it’s more along the lines of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” or “Contact” than a big, alien actioner.

“Arrival” will also show at Toronto International Film Festival next month.

Damien Chazelle‘s much-anticipated ode to old Hollywood musicals, “La La Land,” opens Venice tonight. Early reviews are excellent so far. Villeneuve and team are hoping for an equally enthusiastic response for “Arrival.”

For those who will not be attending the film festival, “Arrival” is slated for release on Nov. 11 and “La La Land” releases wide on Dec. 16.
