The latest trailer for Dee Rees’ highly anticipated “Mudbound” is here. The upcoming film has been a frequent flier at international film festivals, winning the Middleburg Film Festival Audience Award, an overall audience favorite award at MVFF40, and an opening night screening at AFI Fest 2017. Watch it below.
“Mudbound” follows two families working the same land in the Mississippi Delta, struggling to survive the WWII-era South. One family, the McAllans, is helmed by delusional patriarch Henry, who still believes his farm can succeed; the other family, the Jacksons, are newcomers hoping to build their dream home. Things are further complicated when sons Jamie McAllan and Ronsel Jackson return home and struggle with the realities of civilian life in the Jim Crow era.
The drama stars Jason Mitchell (“Straight Outta Compton”), Mary J. Blige (“Empire”) and Rob Morgan (“Stranger Things”) as the Jacksons, with Carey Mulligan (“Inside Llewyn Davis”), Garett Hedlund (“Unbroken”), Jason Clarke (“Everest”) and Jonathan Banks (“Better Call Saul”) as the McAllans. Kerry Cahill (“The Walking Dead”) and Lucy Faust (“Claws”) are also featured. Virgil Williams (“Criminal Minds”) and Rees wrote the script based off Hillary Jordan’s novel, with Dees directing.
“Mudbound” is already shaping up to be a contender in this year’s awards season, with Awards Circuit’s founder Clayton Davis calling the film “a visually poetic experience…[blindsiding] you as its richly woven tale examines the love and desperation of two soldiers, intertangled in a web of fate.” He also recently sat down with the cast and director of “Mudbound” to talk about the film and what it means to them: listen to the full Circuit Breaker interview here.
“Mudbound” premieres Nov. 17 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
