Passengers clip, Jennifer Lawrence

One of the more anticipated films of the winter season is “Passengers” from Morten Tyldum (“The Imitation Game”). Sony Pictures released some new footage today of the film, which stars Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt.

Passengers” is the story of two passengers on board a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim (Pratt) and Aurora (Lawrence) try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other. They are unable to deny their intense attraction… only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.

Michael Sheen (“The Queen”), Laurence Fishburne (“The Matrix”) and Aurora Perrineau (“Jem and the Holograms”) also star in the film. In addition, the cinematography is shot by Rodrigo Prieto. He also shot Martin Scorsese’s upcoming “Silence” from Paramount Pictures. Prieto has only one Oscar nomination to his credit despite an impeccable filmography that includes “Babel,” “Frida” and “Argo.” His sole nomination was for Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain” in 2005.

“Passengers” is written by Jon Spaihts, whose previous efforts include “Prometheus” and “Van Helsing.” Producer credits include Stephen Hamel (“Henry’s Crime”), Michael Maher (his first producing credit), Ori Marmur (“Battle Los Angeles”) and Neal H. Moritz (“Furious 7”).

Lawrence won Best Actress for her leading role in “Silver Linings Playbook.” Roles in “Winter’s Bone,” “American Hustle” and “Joy” also provided Lawrence with nominations.

Pratt is known for his roles on the hit show “Parks and Recreation” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

The film will release in theaters on Dec. 21. Check out the new clip below!
