WATCH: New Trailer for ‘Beautiful Boy’ Releases and Puts Chalamet Out Front

There are few films that audiences expect to deliver an emotional gut-punch like “Beautiful Boy” in 2018. The story of a family dealing with addiction can be an extremely difficult one to tell. The film brings out two of the hardest working actors in Hollywood today. Both Steve Carrell and Timothée Chalamet star, which we see in the second trailer today.

A synopsis for the film can be read below.

Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.

Our own Clayton Davis saw “Beautiful Boy” when it debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival. You can read his review here. Most of the attention in the new trailer focuses on Chalamet and Carrell, who continue to be the strongest aspects of the film.

Chalamet feels like the more likely nominee for the feature. He received a lot of support last year for his work in “Call Me By Your Name” and other features. He’s become something of the internet’s “it” boy. With Chalamet, the support feels real across the industry, and goodwill could get him into a race even if the film falters.

Carrell certainly qualifies for overdue status as well. The actor received his first Oscar nomination for “Foxcatcher” and contended for “The Big Short” just a couple years ago. His bigger play this year may be the “Untitled Dick Cheney” film, rumored to be named “Vice” by several prognosticators. With Carrell and Chalamet showing up as two of the strongest actors in Hollywood today in baity roles, “Beautiful Boy” remains an interesting Oscar contender, despite mediocre reviews.

What do you think of the new trailer for “Beautiful Boy?” Can Chalamet or Carrell still find their way into the Oscar race? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below!

“Beautiful Boy” releases on Oct. 12, 2018. Amazon will distribute.
