WATCH: New Trailer For ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Feature 6 Spideys

It’s great to see comic books embracing the weirder parts of their continuity. Look no further than “The Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Doctor Strange” films making it to theaters. The same goes for the upcoming “Shazam!” film. While superhero films can tell weird and complicated stories, we might hit our limit on “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” when it releases this Christmas. The story follows Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) the first multicultural non-white Spider-Man. The new trailer today introduces us to the fact that there aren’t just 3 Spideys in this Universe, but many more to come.

The intro to the trailer does an excellent job at establishing Jake Johnson‘s interpretation of Peter Parker. It also does a great job at establishing the comedy and mentorship he can offer to Miles. Then things go from weird to the weirdest. We’re quickly introduced to Gwen Stacey (Hailee Steinfeld), Spider-Man Noir (Nicholas Cage), Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn) and finally, Spider-Ham (John Mulaney). Not only that, but there are other big actors to fill out the cast. Liev Schreiber takes on the role of the villainous Kingpin with Scorpion also making an appearance. Brian Tyree Henry continues his stellar year as Miles’ dad, Jefferson Davis. Also included but not shown in the trailer will be Mahershala Ali as Aaron Davis a.k.a. The Prowler.
Altogether, the cast delivers stellar humor and funny gags throughout. Honestly, it’s a great idea to differentiate this universe from the MCU and other Sony worlds in such a drastic way. Phil Lord and Chris Miller produce and Lord wrote the screenplay, and that playfulness is evident. Most exciting of all, the animation looks absolutely amazing. This world of Spider-Man could be the funniest yet, and Miles Morales has a lot to offer the future of superhero films.
