The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” will finally come to theaters. To say this film had a rocky road would be a slight understatement. Its production, which took place for about 30 years, is so prolific, they did a documentary on it. Director Terry Gilliam started working on it in 1989 but he didn’t start filming until 2000. However, production didn’t end until 2017. Then, when Amazon Studios acquired the film, they eventually withdrew it, initially leaving its fate in limbo. But the film now has a home and will be released for one night only in select theaters. Also, it has a new trailer.

The film follows a filmmaker named Toby (Adam Driver) who finds himself trapped in a time-hopping fantasy. He meets a Spanish cobbler (Jonathan Pryce) who believes himself to be Don Quixote. As the film progresses, Toby must confront the tragic repercussions of a film he made in his youth. Also, he must be able to discover what is fantasy and reality.

Judging by the trailer, the movie seems completely in sync with Terry Gilliam’s idiosyncratic vision. Anyone who has seen films like “The Zero Theorem” and “Tideland” knows that Gilliam has a knack for the unorthodox. He even received an Oscar nomination for his unorthodox vision in Best Original Screenplay for “Brazil” back in 1985.

Stellan Skarsgard, Olga Kurylenko, Oscar Jaenada, and Jordi Molla make up the supporting cast. In addition, Gilliam and writer Tony Grisoni co-wrote the film’s script. Lastly, its domestic rights are being handled by Screen Media Films.
