WATCH: Official Trailer for Animated Adventure ‘The Willoughbys’ from Netflix

Credit: Netflix

Netflix has released the trailer for the upcoming adventure animation “The Willoughbys,” which is set to arrive on the streaming service April 22 and features a strong cast.

The trailer is heavily narrated by Golden Globe winner Ricky Gervais who portrays The Cat, and he’s joined by Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Alessia Cara, Terry Crews, Martin Short, and Jane Krakowski to make up the vocal ensemble.

The film is the latest animation to be distributed by the streaming giants, having released the Academy Award nominated “Klaus” last year. Kris Pearn and Cory Evans co-direct the feature, with the former having previously directed “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” and the latter making their directorial debut.

Director Pearn has also written the script, based on the children’s book of the same name by Lois Lowry. The characters have been designed by Craig Kellman, whose previous work includes “Trolls” and the “Hotel Transylvania” franchise.

The following is the synopsis released by Netflix to accompany the trailer on their official YouTube channel:

Convinced they’d be better off raising themselves, the Willoughby children hatch a sneaky plan to send their selfish parents on vacation. The siblings then embark on their own high-flying adventure to find the true meaning of family.

Netflix has a packed film schedule ahead, due in part to the global pandemic which has seen some cancelled theatrical releases heading to the streaming service such as “The Lovebirds” and “Time to Hunt” most recently. Also heading to Netflix in April is the second season of “After Life,” which features Ricky Gervais, who has built up a good working relationship with Netflix in recent years.
