WATCH: Official Trailer for ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Just Beamed In

Sonequa Martin-Green as Federation Captain Burnham.

The trailer all “Star Trek” fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. The official trailer for CBS All Access’ “Star Trek: Discovery” premiered yesterday at SDCC and looks just as cinematic as the Alternate Original Series of recent years.

Michael Keoh as Federation Captain Georgiou.

The series is set ten years before the events of 2009’s “Star Trek,” the show tells the story of the first battles between the Federation and the Klingons. “Stark Trek” fans will also be treated to many Easter eggs and familiar minor characters, including Sarek, Spock’s father (James Frain), who acts as a father figure for Vulcan-educated Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). Martin-Green will play the first ever black female captain of a Federation ship, and looks perfect as the series’ lead in the trailer.

The show stars Jason Isaacs (“The OA”), Martin-Green (“The Walking Dead”), Doug Jones (“Pan’s Labryinth”), Shazad Latif (“Penny Dreadful”),  Maulik Pancholy (“30 Rock”), Anthony Rapp (“Rent”), and Michelle Yeoh (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”). The series also features Clare McConnell (“Dim the Fluorescents”), Kenneth Mitchell (“Jericho”), Damon Runyan (“Nikita”), Terry Serpico (“Army Wives”), Rekha Sharma (“Battlestar Galactica”), Sam Vartholomeos and Mary Wiseman (“Longmire”). Rainn Wilson (“The Office”) will portray this season’s villain Harvey Mudd.

“Star Trek: Discovery” is helmed and written by Bryan Fuller (“American Gods”) and created by Alex Kurtzman (“Star Trek Into Darkness), with writing credits also extended to late “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry. Jesse Alexander, Kristen Beyer, Aron Eli Coleite, Joe Menosky and Nicholas Meyer also wrote an episode each of “Star Trek: Discovery’s” first season.

“Star Trek: Discovery” premieres Sept. 24 on CBS All Access. Watch the trailer below.
