Netflix has today released the trailer for the second season of the dark comedy “After Life” starring Ricky Gervais as a man coping with the loss of his wife. The first season aired in March 2019 to favorable reviews, with the upcoming season set to launch on the streaming service April 24.
Gervais returns as the struggling Tony, who is attempting to turn over a new leaf in his life after spending much of the first season venting his frustration and anger at other people. The season concluded with Tony acknowledging just how much help those around him have offered, and the trailer for season two suggests he will look to return the favour. Tony says, “When she died, everybody tried to help me and it saved me. I feel like I should help the people that helped me.”
Kerry Godliman returns to the series as Tony’s wife who is shown through old video clips, along with Tom Basden, Tony Way, Diane Morgan, Mandeep Dhillon, Ashley Jensen, Joe Wilkinson, Roisin Conaty and Penelope Wilton among others.
The synopsis for season two is written below, as published by Netflix to accompany the second season trailer:
Still struggling with immense grief after the death of his wife, Tony (Ricky Gervais) is trying to turn over a new leaf. Will he succeed in helping the people around him, or will he go back to being the same old Tony?
Gervais also writes and directs the series, as is common practice with the British comedian who also created “The Office,” “Extras” and “Derek.” His voice will also be heard later in this month in the Netflix animated feature film “The Willoughbys.”
