With just a few weeks to go before its release, Fox Searchlight unveiled a second trailer for “The Old Man & the Gun.”
Robert Redford stars in the crime drama as the titular old man, a bank robber who escaped from the infamous California prison, San Quentin, at age 70. The film tells the true story of Forrest Tucker who, after his escape, committed a string of bank heists. Tucker was known for his gentlemanly ways. Redford stated that this will be his final onscreen performance.
Casey Affleck stars as the lead detective investigating the bank robberies and determined to capture Tucker. Following his Oscar win for “Manchester by the Sea,” Affleck was last seen in director David Lowery’s ethereal “A Ghost Story.”
Sissy Spacek also stars as Jewel, a woman Tucker romances in between crimes. Spacek, the star of such notable films as “Carrie,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “In the Bedroom” currently stars on Hulu’s breakout hit series, “Castle Rock.”
Other familiar faces in “The Old Man & the Gun” include Danny Glover, Tika Sumpter, Keith Carradine, and John David Washington.
David Lowery wrote and directed the film. Lowery has an interesting and eclectic filmography that includes films that play with genres and atmosphere. His credits include “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” “Pete’s Dragon,” and the aforementioned “A Ghost Story.” He has worked in several different departments in film, including editing, sound, and cinematography. Often he works for others, but sometimes he edits or shoots his own projects, in addition to writing and directing.
The film is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival prior to its theatrical release.
