WATCH: Robert Redford Is a Polite Criminal in Official Trailer for ‘The Old Man & the Gun’

Fox Searchlight

Fox Searchlight released the first trailer for Robert Redford’s last film.

The Oscar winning actor and director announced a few years ago that he would be retiring from acting. His final onscreen performance will be in the leading role in “The Old Man & the Gun.”

Robert Redford stars as Forrest Tucker. It is based on the true story of Tucker’s escape from California’s infamous San Quentin, and his subsequent series of bank heists. Along the way he meets Jewel (Sissy Spacek), and strikes up a relationship with her, while US Marshall John Hunt (Casey Affleck) works to track him down.

Redford won an Academy Award for directing “Ordinary People” in 1980. He was nominated again for directing “Quiz Show” in 1994. He also earned an Oscar nomination for his leading role in “The Sting” in 1973. The star of dozens of movies since the 1960s, he also founded the Sundance Film Festival and the Sundance Institute, helping to cultivate creative film voices since the early 1980s.

Sissy Spacek is also an Academy Award winner. She has six nominations to her name, winning for “Coal Miner’s Daughter” in 1980. She earned her first nomination for the title role in the horror film “Carrie” in 1977. She is starring in Hulu’s new series “Castle Rock,” which premieres in July.

Casey Affleck won his Academy Award just two years ago for “Manchester By the Sea.” His breakthrough role came in 1997 with “Good Will Hunting,” but he has continued to grow through films like “Gone Baby Gone” and the “Ocean’s” franchise.

“The Old Man & the Gun” also stars Elisabeth Moss, Keith Carradine, John David Washington, and Danny Glover.

David Lowery wrote and directed the film. He garnered a lot of attention last year for the nearly dialog-free “A Ghost Story.” He has also directed films like “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” and “Pete’s Dragon.”

Fox Searchlight will release “The Old Man & the Gun” on October 5.
