For the past few years, one of the auteurs that helped kick off the run on the Sundance Film Festival has been noticeably absent. Robert Rodriguez came to fame during the early 1990’s with the releases of “El Mariachi” and “Desperado.” While Rodriguez has never been a prestige filmmaker, his features have drawn attention for more than a decade. However, his last film came in 2014, and “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” was not exactly a landmark feature. However, we get a return from the filmmaker as “Alita: Battle Angel” finally makes its way to theaters.
Today, 20th Century Fox released a new trailer for the feature. While there had been a teaser before, this new trailer gives more information about the film. The film has been a long-gestating project from James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. Based on a popular Manga series by Yukito Kishiro.
The IMDB Synopsis is as follows:
An action-packed story of one young woman’s journey to discover the truth of who she is and her fight to change the world.
The trailer features a lot of CGI to bring the world to life. However, there is a lot of talent involved in the picture as well. Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, and Mahershala Ali each took home Oscars. Jackie Earle Haley also has a nomination to show for his efforts. Rosa Salazar has been an up and coming actress as well, appearing in the “Divergent” series before it ran out of steam. With Rodriguez on board to direct, and Bill Pope shooting the film, and Junkie XL scoring, there appears to be a lot of reasons to be excited.
