WATCH: Ryan Gosling is Neil Armstrong in ‘First Man’ Trailer

Without question, one of the most anticipated movies of 2018 is “First Man,” filmmaker Damien Chazelle‘s follow up to the Oscar winning “La La Land.” Another major Academy Award hopeful, Chazelle this time is making a large scale Neil Armstrong biopic, the astronaut who was the first to walk on the moon. Teaming back up with Ryan Gosling, this has been thought of as a major awards player ever since it was announced. In addition, combination of premise, star power, and storyteller at the helm all make for something truly baity. Well, after a Poster debuted yesterday, a Trailer has followed along soon after.

As mentioned previously, this is the official synopsis: “On the heels of their six-time Academy Award®-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar®-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.” Chazelle directs a script initially by Nicole Perlman, though now only Josh Singer seems to be getting credited. Co-starring with Gosling is Claire Foy, along with Christopher Abbott, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, Ethan Embry, Patrick Fugit, Lukas Haas, Ciarán Hinds, Brian d’Arcy James, Pablo Schreiber, Corey Stoll, and Shea Whigham. Behind the camera, Tom Cross is again Chazelle’s editor, Justin Hurwitz his composer, and Linus Sandgren his cinematographer. One look at this Trailer suggests something incredible intense yet intimate. It does look like “Whiplash” in some ways, just on a massive scale. There’s no reason not to look at this film as a major player.

Here now is the “First Man” Trailer:

“First Man” will be released by Universal Pictures on October 12th, in the heart of the Oscar season. Nothing in that Trailer suggests anything other than a contender. Stay tuned for much more in the months to come. This film is going to be a big deal.
