Warner Bros released the first official trailer for “Ocean’s 8” on Tuesday morning via the Ocean’s 8 twitter page.
The film gathers eight skilled women to pull off an impossible heist at New York’s annual Met Gala. It is an all-women twist on the popular “Ocean’s 11” franchise.
The team is led by Debbie Ocean, the estranged sister of George Clooney’s Danny. Ocean is played by Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock in her first onscreen role since 2015’s “Our Brand is Crisis.”
Taking up Brad Pitt’s Rusty character is Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett as Lou. Blanchett comes off of a wildly acclaimed role as the villain in “Thor: Ragnarok.” She will also be seen soon in the starring role in “Where’d You Go, Bernadette.”
Other members of the team include Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables”), Sarah Paulson (“The Post”), Helena Bonham Carter (“Alice in Wonderland”), Mindy Kaling (“The Mindy Project”), Rihanna (“Bates Motel”), and Awkwafina (“Neighbors 2”).
Altogether, this powerhouse team of women has won four Oscars, two Emmys, eight Grammys, six Golden Globes, five BAFTAs, and 10 SAGs.
“Ocean’s 8” also promises a who’s who of cameos and supporting players. James Corden and a few Kardashians appear. Matt Damon and Carl Reiner will reprise their roles as Linus and Saul, but how the two figure into the story is still unclear.
Gary Ross directs and co-writes the film. The four-time Oscar nominee wrote the scripts for “Big,” “Dave,” and “Seabiscuit.” He also directed “Seabiscuit,” earning a Best Picture nomination, as well as “The Hunger Games.”
His co-writer is Olivia Milch. She makes her feature screenwriting debut next year with “Ocean’s 8” and with “Dude,” which she also directs.
“Ocean’s 8” will be in theaters June 8, 2018.
