“Bad Times at the El Royale” has an official trailer from 20th Century Fox.
The official synopsis for the thriller reads:
Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption – before everything goes to hell.
The film is written and directed by Drew Goddard, who previously directed “The Cabin in the Woods” in 2012. He cultivated his writing skills on TV with shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Alias,” and “Lost.” He also wrote “Cloverfield” and adapted “The Martian.”
Chris Hemsworth stars as a cult leader, although that seems to be the only detail anyone knows for certain. The “Thor” star has proven himself with a range of characters, with thrillers and comedies on his resume.
He stars alongside Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, and Dakota Johnson.
Bridges won an Academy Award for “Crazy Heart” in 2009. He has seven total Oscar nominations, the most recent of which was for “Hell or High Water” in 2016. He also starred in films like “Star Man,” “The Vanishing,” and “True Grit.”
Jon Hamm has been around for a long time, but it was his award-winning role in “Mad Men” that turned him into a household name. Hamm has had roles in films like “The Town,” “Bridesmaids,” and “Baby Driver.” He also appears as a frequent guest star on the Netflix series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” in which he plays a former cult leader.
Dakota Johnson is mostly recognized for her work in the “Fifty Shades” franchise, but she has also worked in films like “A Bigger Splash” and “Black Mass.”
Nick Offerman and Cynthia Erivo also star. Offerman is in theaters this weekend with the Sundance hit, “Hearts Beat Loud.” Erivo will star later this year in Steve McQueen’s highly anticipated, “Widows.”
“Bad Times at the El Royale” hits theaters on October 5.
