Netflix had been making original programming for years when its biggest hit came roaring to life in the summer of 2016. “Stranger Things” became a slow-burn success, climbing up the ranks of television fans everywhere. What started as a seemingly small show emerged as one of the sci-fi populist trends of the past decade. Now, audiences will do anything to get a glimpse of the next “Stranger Things” content. Lucky for us, Season 3 is already in the works. The next time audiences return to Hawkins, Indiana, the town will be hopping. After all, they just got themselves a new mall!
Netflix released a new teaser for Season 3 of “Stranger Things” today. The teaser focuses on Starcourt Mall, a new location to be introduced. We get a glimpse of one of our key characters with fan favorite Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and newcomer Robin (Maya Hawke).
News from the series does not stop there. The new mayor of the town, Mayor Kline (played by Cary Elwes) sent out a press release for the mall as well. Both the trailer and the press release strike the right tones of nostalgia. In addition, the mall setting is extremely interesting. It is doubtful the mall will only be a hang out for the local kids. Is there something sinister afoot? Or is the mall reference to the famed “Dawn of the Dead,” which took place in a mall and released 30 years ago this September? The series showcases nostalgia well. Can it continue to retread on ’80’s hits? Right now the answer seems to be yes, as the characters and actors make this show must-watch television.
