Focus Features have unveiled the teaser trailer for “Emma,” starring Anya Taylor-Joy in an adaptation of Jane Austen’s book. It is directed by Autumn de Wilde (“Six by Sondheim”).
Jane Austen’s beloved comedy about finding your equal and earning your happy ending, is reimagined in this delicious new film adaptation of EMMA. Handsome, clever, and rich, Emma Woodhouse is a restless queen bee without rivals in her sleepy little town. In this glittering satire of social class and the pain of growing up, Emma must adventure through misguided matches and romantic missteps to find the love that has been there all along.
De Wilde directs her narrative feature film debut from a script by Eleanor Catton, adapted from Jane Austen’s beloved novel. The original story was first published in 1815 and houses one of the author’s adored and endearing characters in Emma Woodhouse. The story was also adapted for the screen in 1996 with Douglas McGrath’s film starring Gwenyth Paltrow.
Taylor-Joy takes on another lead role for her stunning, growing career. She starred in “Glass,” “The Dark Crystal:Age of Resistance,” “Radioactive” and “Peaky Blinders” this year alone. She is also well known for her earlier performances in Robert Eggers’ “The Witch,” M. Night Shyamalan’s “Split” and Cory Finley’s “Thoroughbreds.”
“Handsome, Clever, and Rich,” the film’s poster reads. This update on the story also features a colorful palette and keeps its period piece aesthetic close to the heart. It also stars Johnny Flynn, Bill Nighy, Mia Goth, Miranda Hart, Josh O’Connor, Callum Turner, Rupert Graves, Gemma Whelan, Amber Anderson, Tanya Reynolds, and Connor Swindells.
