WATCH: Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt Go Back to 1969 in Teaser Trailer for ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Quentin Tarantino fans woke up to exciting news on the first day of Spring. Sony has released a teaser trailer for the Oscar winner’s ninth feature film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

Leonardo DiCaprio is Rick Dalton, an actor trying to hold on to his fading career. Brad Pitt is Cliff Booth, Dalton’s stunt double and closest companion. Set in Hollywood in the summer of 1969, the film features a who’s who of Hollywood names including Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino, Margaret Qualley, Tim Roth, James Marsden, and the late Luke Perry.

Margot Robbie stars as Sharon Tate, a character and casting decision that raised a few eyebrows when the project was first announced. The original release date had been set for the 50th anniversary of Sharon Tate’s murder by Charles Manson’s followers. That release date has since been changed.

This is Tarantino’s ninth official feature film, a fact highlighted in the trailer. It matters because the director has stated that he would only direct ten feature films. The number does not include television work, a couple of co- or guest-directing jobs, and also rolls the “Kill Bill” films into one. He has four Oscar nominations, with two wins for his original screenplays for “Pulp Fiction” and “Django Unchained.” He earned additional Golden Globe nominations for “Inglorious Basterds” and “The Hateful Eight.”

After years working in film and television, Leonardo DiCaprio won his Oscar for “The Revenant” in 2015. The fifth time was the charm for the actor whose first nomination came for “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” in 1993.

Brad Pitt has three acting nominations, his first being “Twelve Monkeys” in 1995. He won his first Academy Award for producing “12 Years a Slave” in 2013. He followed that up with another Best Picture nomination for “The Big Short” two years later. He also had a small role in that film.

The new trailer, seen below, provides just a taste of Tarantino’s signature style, revealing just a glimpse of the relationship between its two main stars.

Sony Pictures is distributing “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and will release the film on July 26.
