WATCH: The Adventure Begins in New Magical Trailer For Disney/Pixar’s ‘Onward’

The magical adventure begins in the new trailer for Disney and Pixar’s “Onward.” Written and directed by Dan Scanlon (“Monsters University”), the animated tale follows two brothers on the journey for magical answers.

Set in a suburban fantasy world, “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. When the brothers reach of age, they are presented with a magical staff that may help them reconnect with their father and bring him back for 24 hrs- but the spell only seems to work halfway and the two are stuck hanging out with a pair of their father’s legs.

Footage from the upcoming Disney/Pixar feature was first shown back at D23, where Collider’s Vinne Mancuso says, “In classic Pixar fashion, this entire thing manages to be funny and heartbreaking at the same time.”

Last year, Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” was nominated at the Academy Awards, a place not unfamiliar to the studio. Between 2008 to 2018, the animation studio has won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film seven times. These include wins for “Ratatouille,” “WALL-E,” “Up,” “Toy Story 3,” “Brave,” “Inside Out” and “Coco.”

Scanlon’s debut directorial effort came in co-directing Pixar Animation’s “Cars” short, “Mater and the Ghostlight,” with John Lasseter. Scanlon’s first solo effort was the 2009 mockumentary “Tracy.” It was followed by “Monsters University,” a prequel to Disney and Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” The film grossed over $268 million at the domestic box office and over $744 total worldwide.

“Onward” stars Tom Holland (“Spider-Man: Far From Home”), Chris Pratt (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), Octavia Spencer (“Luce”) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”).

“Onward” is produced by Kori Rae, Walt Disney Studios, Pixar Animation, and along with the team behind “Monsters University.” It releases in theaters March 6, 2020.
