“How far would you go to hide your secrets to find the truth?” Netflix has released the trailer for “The Woods,” a Polish series following a disappearance mystery. The series stars Grzegorz Damięcki, Agnieszka Grochowska, Wiktoria Filus, and Hubert Miłkowski. It is the second Polish original series from the streaming giant, following 2018’s Warsaw-set drama, “1983.” “The Woods” is based on Harlan Coben’s mystery thriller novel and premieres on Netflix on June 12.

The official synopsis:

Summer’94 – holiday camp based in the woods.
Four people went into the woods and never came back.
The police find the bodies of two of them. Despite passing years Paweł Kopiński (Grzegorz Damięcki), who is Warsaw prosecutor now, never recovered of the loss his beloved sister. Unexpectedly, he gets a new lead in the investigation, which seems to be related to the disappearance of the girl in 1994. What really happened 25 years ago during the holiday camp?

Coben is the author behind the novels “The Stranger” and “Safe.” Those titles are also in production at Netflix in the U.K. division. Though filmed in Poland, “The Woods” can be viewed either dubbed or subbed in English.

Directing the six-part series is Leszek Dawid (“You Are God”) and Bartosz Konopka (“Rabbit a la Berlin”). The Polish Film Institute is financially backing the project, with ATM Grupa executive producing. In a statement last fall, Dawid says the series will be a story viewers will want to follow.

“Try as hard as you might to bury unresolved issues from the past, but one day they will find their way back to you anyway. What I find fascinating is the way the film deals with the idea of a carefree adolescence. Looking back at the time in your life when you lived your most beautiful but, at the same time, your most atrocious experiences. Learning the truth. You cannot go any further without doing that,” says Dawid.

The series marks another entry from Poland’s original work with the streamer. Recent Polish titles to make waves in the industry are the Oscar-nominated films “Corpus Christi” and “Cold War.”

“The Woods” premieres on Netflix worldwide on June 12. Watch the trailer below.
