WATCH: Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell Face Both Sides of Addiction in Official Trailer for ‘Beautiful Boy’

Amazon Studios has released the official trailer for the highly anticipated awards season film, “Beautiful Boy.”

Based on the memoirs by both David and Nic Scheff, the film is the story of a father and his son, both on each side of the son’s methamphetamine addiction.

Steve Carell plays David. His side of the story is based on the book, “Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction.” Once known mostly for his comedic work on “The Office,” and in movies like “Anchorman,” Carell has proven himself quite the talented dramatic actor, too. His roles in “Little Miss Sunshine” and “The Big Short” were widely praised. And he received an Academy Award nomination for “Foxcatcher” in 2014.

Timothée Chalamet comes fresh from his first Academy Award nomination for last year’s “Call Me By Your Name.” The young star appeared in three major films last year. Besides “CMBYN,” he also showed up in “Hostiles” and “Lady Bird.” He will be in theaters very soon with “Hot Summer Nights,” which was a film that made the festival rounds last year. In “Beautiful Boy,” Chalamet’s side of the story comes from Nic Scheff’s book, “Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines.”

Maura Tierney (“The Affair”) and Amy Ryan (“Gone Baby Gone”) also star in “Beautiful Boy.”

Felix Van Groeningen directed and co-wrote the script. He previously directed “Broken Circle Breakdown” in 2012. That film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, representing Belgium.

Luke Davies is the co-writer for the adapted screenplay. His last adapted screenplay earned him an Academy Award nomination. That film was 2016’s “Lion.”

The film is produced by the award winning trio of Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Brad Pitt. Their Plan B Entertainment has produced such films as “Moonlight,” “12 Years a Slave,” and “The Big Short.”

Amazon Studios will release “Beautiful Boy” in theaters on October 12.
