There is little discussion about whether or not the “Toy Story” trilogy was among the greatest in cinema history. The toy-centric narrative was a deeply emotional and groundbreaking series. They popularized computer-generated animation and made Pixar a household name. The series won special achievement Oscars, earned a Best Picture nomination, and inspired an entire theme park land. Still, it was somewhat surprising when Pixar announced the plans for a “Toy Story 4” in November 2014. Today, we finally get our first look of our old friends in a ridiculous teaser trailer.
The new, very odd, “Forky” aside, the fan favorites are back. Tom Hanks returns as Woody and seems to be the focus of the film. Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Hamm (John Ratzenberger), and Rex (Wallace Shawn) return as well. Patricia Arquette has been added to the cast as well.
Disney also announced an official synopsis for the upcoming film with the trailer.
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
At this point, Pixar has earned our trust on this franchise. While this may seem like an oddball concept, it could be fruitful and emotional. Rumors continue to swirl about Bo Peep’s return to the franchise, and the “Forky” plot may be the inciting incident to make that happen. Directed by Josh Cooley, an Oscar-nominee for “Inside Out,” the new story will be much anticipated in 2019.
