WATCH: New Trailer Released For Daniel Destin Cretton’s ‘Just Mercy’

A new trailer for Daniel Destin Cretton‘s drama “Just Mercy” has landed from Warner Bros. The film stars Michael B. Jordan along with Academy Award winners Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson.

Read the synopsis below:

“Just Mercy” follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson).

One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds—and the system—stacked against them.

“Every generation has its hero. Meet ours,” the trailer reads near the end. It shows Jordan’s Bryan Stevenson working toward the liberation of Foxx’s supporting character, Walter McMillian, whose case it at the center of the story.

“Just Mercy” premiered at Toronto International Film Festival earlier in the year, when its first trailer debuted ahead of the screening. It also stars Rob Morgan (“Mudbound”), Tim Blake Nelson (“Wormwood”), Rafe Spall and O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton”).

Cretton directs the film from a script with Andrew Lanham (“The Kid”). The film is based on Stevenson’s own book, “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption.” Cretton’s past projects include directing “Short Term 12,” which starred Larson. Cretton was most recently also tapped by Marvel to helm the upcoming “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”

“Just Mercy” is produced by Endeavor Content, Netter Productions and Outlier Society.  Warner Bros Pictures is distributing the film in theaters wide January 10, 2020. It will also screen in limited theaters December 25.
